Generating energy & carbon savings by improving thermal system efficiency, resulting in GHG abatement of 214 T Co2-e/pa
Australian farmer-owned dairy co-operative, Norco partnered with NRG-ONE to help deliver their sustainability initiatives. The first stage of this partnership focused on reducing scope one GHG emissions by improving thermal system efficiency and reducing LPG consumption by over 12%.
THE BRIEF:
Boasting a membership of 326 active farmers across 199 dairy farms in northern New South Wales and southeastern Queensland, Norco’s annual milk production at their Labrador facility totals approximately 145 million litres. In 2024, the co-operative started working with NRG-ONE to support the delivery of sustainability projects, together a holistic approach was taken, based on traditional energy management, this included:
- A tailored consultation process to understand the facility’s energy system, business needs, and where practical solutions could be implemented to improve productivity.
- Working alongside the Norco engineering team to ensure we met their safety and compliance expectations while delivering the project without interruption to their manufacturing facility.
THE NRG-ONE SOLUTION:
Underpinned by NRG-ONE’s contracting, energy, and carbon management experience, our team worked closely with Norco to quantify capital cost, energy and carbon savings to support the capital application process.
Together, we delivered a practical sustainability project, removing GHG emissions and operating cost from the facility through the installation of thermal insulation on steam, condensate, and hot water piping, as well as optimisation of the boiler make up water circuit. NRG-ONE’s solution has delivered:
- Estimated savings of 3,529 GJ and 214 T Co2-e per annum.
- Increased feedwater temperature, boiler capacity and efficiency.
- An attractive return on investment.
